Novra Foods launches in 2026 with six plant-based corn cake snacks — crafted in Europe, built for the Arabian Gulf. This is the story of why we built it, what we built, and who we built it for.

There is a gap in the Arabian Gulf's food market that is difficult to articulate precisely because it is everywhere at once. Walk the snack aisle of any premium supermarket in Dubai, Riyadh, or Doha and you will find shelves stacked high — multinationals, private label, import brands from every continent. You will find abundance. What you will not easily find is excellence. Not in the category we care about. Not in plant-based snacking. Not at the level this market deserves.

That gap is why Novra Foods exists.

"We built Novra Foods on one refusal — the refusal to make plant food that asks anything of the consumer. No patience. No 'considering the source.' Only excellence, on its own terms."

— Novra Foods, founding brief

The Brief. The Gap. The Decision.

In 2024, we wrote a brief. It was short. It said: the Arabian Gulf has six of the world's most demanding food markets. Consumers here are internationally educated, ingredient-aware, and accustomed to the best of everything — in hospitality, in retail, in food service. The plant-based category, by contrast, has largely treated this region as a secondary market. Products designed for European or American consumers, translated poorly, distributed late, priced without local logic.

We studied the market carefully. We looked at what was available, what was selling, what was missing. The gap we confirmed was not a gap in options — it was a gap in craft. The plant-based snack that could stand next to the finest cheese, the best charcuterie, the most considered table in the room — and belong there — did not exist in this market. We decided to make it.

European Craft. Why It Matters.

We did not choose European manufacturing for the provenance story, although that story is true. We chose it because Germany and the Netherlands are home to the world's most advanced plant food manufacturers — specialists who have spent decades refining plant protein extrusion, grain pressing, and flavour development to a precision that does not exist elsewhere at scale.

Our partners were not selected for their proximity to a distribution hub, or because they were the most affordable option. They were selected because they are the best at what they do — and because the ingredients they work with are grown, not processed. The corn in our corn cakes is European corn. The extra virgin olive oil is cold-pressed. The za'atar blend carries wild thyme and oregano sourced from the same traditions that have carried those herbs for centuries. Nothing is engineered to approximate. Everything is the thing itself.

Our Philosophy
Plants carry no compromise.
Only those who use them do.

The plant-based category has been marked, since its inception, by a kind of apology. Products that ask the consumer to meet them halfway — to accept a slightly different texture, a flavour that almost arrives, a nutritional claim that compensates for a sensory shortcoming. We refused that framework from the first day.

Our manufacturers in Germany and the Netherlands were briefed on one standard: the product must be excellent on its own terms. Not "excellent for a plant-based product." Not "a great healthy alternative." Excellent. Full stop. That standard required 28 iterations across our six-flavour range before we were satisfied. We are satisfied now.

Six Flavours. Six Decisions.

The range was not assembled. It was composed. Each of the six SKUs in the Novra launch collection represents a deliberate decision about flavour, texture, ingredient sourcing, and the specific sensory experience we wanted to create. Fourteen flavour candidates were developed and tasted across multiple rounds. Six survived.

Three are built on European corn — our corn cake base, pressed flat and crisped to a structure that carries flavour without dissolving under it. Two use whole grain rice as their foundation. One pair draws on our high-protein pea isolate base, delivering 12g of European pea protein per serving in a form that does not announce itself as functional food. The flavour does the work. The nutrition follows quietly.

The Za'atar Question

Za'atar deserves its own paragraph, because it is the flavour that told us we were on the right track. When we introduced the herb blend into our formulation process, there was an immediate tension: za'atar is a flavour that every person in the Arabian Gulf knows intimately. It carries memory, family, region. To use it well requires precision and respect. To use it badly is to have made something that will be recognised immediately as wrong.

We developed two za'atar expressions. The first — Za'atar — is as close to essential as we could get. Wild thyme, oregano, sumac, sesame, olive oil. No additions. No modulation. The flavour the herb blend has always been. The second — Za'atar & Lime — uses Persian lime to do something unexpected: it lifts the herbaceousness, brightens the sumac's acidity, and creates a profile that is simultaneously ancient and entirely new. Both survived into the final range. Neither required an apology.

"Every ingredient chosen. Every flavour earned. Produced in Europe by specialists who have spent their careers perfecting plant food. Now arriving in the Arabian Gulf for the first time."

What Novra Foods Is — and Is Not

What we are

Halal Certified 100% Plant-Based Gluten-Free Non-GMO European Manufactured No Artificial Additives

Every SKU in the Novra range is Halal certified, fully plant-based, and gluten-free. Our range spans the full flavour spectrum — from the quiet minerality of Rosemary & Sea Salt to the bold counterpoint of Harissa & Pomegranate. No artificial colours, no preservatives, no flavour enhancers. What you read on the ingredient panel is what is in the product.

What we are not

We are not a wellness brand. We are not selling virtue or abstinence. We are making food that happens to carry no animal products — because plant food, done properly, does not need animal products to be excellent. The consumer we are building for is not someone who needs to be convinced to eat plants. They are someone who expects the best of everything they eat, and has been waiting for plant-based snacking to meet that standard.

Six Markets. The Arabian Gulf.

Novra Foods launches simultaneously across six GCC markets in 2026. This was a deliberate decision, not a staged rollout. The Arabian Gulf functions as a coherent food market — retail networks, distribution infrastructure, and consumer expectations are closely aligned across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar. A brand that enters one market well is a brand that enters one market. A brand that enters all six at once, at the right standard, becomes a regional name.

We are entering all six at once, at the right standard.

The Consumer We Are Building For

The person who reaches for a Novra product is not reaching for a compromise. They are not choosing it because it is the least-bad option in a category of disappointments. They are choosing it because it is the best thing on the shelf — and they know exactly why: because they read ingredient panels, because they have eaten well in cities around the world, and because they are not willing to accept a version of plant food that treats their market as secondary.

They are the consumer that the Arabian Gulf has always had, and that the plant-based category has consistently underserved. They exist in every age group, every nationality represented in the Gulf's cosmopolitan demographics. What they share is a standard. Our job is to meet it.

What Comes Next

The 2026 launch collection is six SKUs. It is not the ceiling — it is the foundation. Our formulation pipeline is active, our European partners are engaged, and the flavour directions that did not make the first collection are being refined rather than discarded. Some of the most interesting things we are working on will not appear in 2026.

What will appear is a range that has earned its place at any table in the Arabian Gulf. Six products. Six decisions made without compromise. One company that intends to change what plant-based snacking means in this region — not by arguing that plants are better, but by making something so good that the argument becomes unnecessary.
